When to go
The province of Toliara has a desert type climate and records the lowest rainfall in Madagascar. As in the whole region, temperatures easily rise above 33° C in Saint Augustin with an average temperature rising to 24° C. The best time to visit is between July and September.
How to get there
Antananarivo and Toliara are distant of 936 km. You can take this trip by taxi brousse, though the journey will be very long. You can also opt for an air link. Once in Toliara, take the road towards Sarodrano, a town near the bay.

Most hotels in Toliara have a restaurant service which serve traditional dishes. But if you want to make contact with the local people, you can order your meal at the Restaurant Le Zebu Philosophe, the Bernique restaurant, Le Jardin de Giancarlo, Blu or the Etoile de Mer.
What to see
This region has numerous sights. During your stay in St. Augustin, visit the Cave of Sarodrano and the Antsokay Arboretum. You will make interesting discoveries. A boat ride in the mangrove forest will enable you to better know the hunting grounds of Vezo fishermen. The latter will also be happy to welcome you in their village. Upon your return to Toliara, visit the Institute of Fisheries Science, and the Museum of Mahafaly Arts and Traditions
