Almost all the activities in St. Augustin revolve around the sea, but you can nevertheless enjoy the scenery and the surrounding nature. This is the right place to observe marine wildlife. It was in this well protected bay that vezo fishermen found a coelacanth from prehistory, which is now exhibited in the Rabesandratana Museum in Toliara.
 
In this picturesque fishing village, you will also walk in the footsteps of the pilgrim fathers who built a fort in the 17th century and also admire the vezo cemeteries built on the nearby hillsides.

When to go

The province of Toliara has a desert type climate and records the lowest rainfall in Madagascar. As in the whole region, temperatures easily rise above 33° C in Saint Augustin with an average temperature rising to 24° C. The best time to visit is between July and September.

How to get there

Antananarivo and Toliara are distant of 936 km. You can take this trip by taxi brousse, though the journey will be very long. You can also opt for an air link. Once in Toliara, take the road towards Sarodrano, a town near the bay.
