Located 60 km east of Antananarivo, on the RN2, (Ambatolaona commune), Mandraka is a winding road that delimits the Analamaga region from that of Alaotra-Mangoro. A trip very short in time but with a thousand surprises.
For miles, a beautiful garden runs along the road. It is a paradise stopover, ideal for picnicking and located about 5 km from the hydroelectric power station. Built in 2011, the land, bordered by a stream is decorated with cottages. But the big surprise comes mainly from the two pools and the waterfall. A totally natural set fed by Lake Mantasoa. The vast field of orchids and other exotic plants (Eulophiella, Azalea ...) only adds to the charm of the place. 70% of the species of orchids from
Madagascar are also listed on this plot of 3 hectares. Hence the nickname of the owner, "Ravoninkazo" which means "florist".
Majestic view
A few kilometres earlier, is a 50-hectare ecotourism park rich in animal and plant species typical of Madagascar. It is both a playground, a mini-zoo and a pond for fishing. This winding road is also famous for its hairpin bends including the famous "S" and fairly important slopes. The village of Marozevo can be seen from Mandraka at a high altitude. And the surprises do not end. There is a little air of Switzerland here, the air is cool in summer and winter. Enjoy thedescent to observe the steep mountains that border the bowl of Alaotra-Mangoro.
