Commissioner's Hole in the Manakara area

Go on an excursion to Tanambao Ombimena!

For your next trip, choose the south-eastern part of Madagascar and visit a little-known destination that is not far from the capital of the Vatovavy Fitovinany region, more precisely 8 kilometres from Manakara!
According to oral traditions, an Antemoro fisherman wandered along this beach, in the district of Tanambao Ombimena and saw a soldier who was resting. It was a vazaha (foreigner) and not a security guard nor a policeman. The fisherman saw the commissioner's weapon and was afraid, so he decided to dig a hole so he could take a nap and nobody could disturb him. The history goes back to the twentieth century, but the origin of this name is confirmed until today because tranquility and calm are the keywords in this corner of paradise.

Swimming without risk

The small enclave is protected by a coral reef from where there is serenity and security for a pleasant
swim. Unlike the surrounding beaches (Manakara Be), the sea of the Indian Ocean is very calm, no
big nor powerful waves. However, do not expect to see parasols or bungalows on the edge because
they are not installed. This deserted beach is worth visiting and tourist operators have a carte
blanche to attract more visitors.
