Pierce the secret of Lake Tritriva

 
If there is a place that really symbolizes romance in Madagascar, it is the lake Tritriva, though this natural attraction may not be very impressive in terms of its surface area.
What makes this site so unique is mainly the legends attached to it. Indeed, the local tradition has it that two lovers - Rabeniomby and Ravolahanta, who shared an unconditional, but impossible love - threw themselves in the lake because their parents were against their union. Other beliefs are also related to this place, such as the mystery stirring the curiosity of visitors,that the trees surrounding the lake can bleed. As the site is subject to numerous "fady" or taboos, it would be wiser to settle for enjoying the scenery and letting your guide tell you the great stories of Tritriva.

Set in an ancient and deep crater, lake Tritriva is ideal for walks and not for swimming, which is in fact prohibited. It will take you about twenty minutes to go around the lake. During this tour you may observe how the contours of the lake curiously resemble the island of Madagascar.

When to go

The lake Tritriva is 15 km from the city center of Antsirabe. It enjoys a warm tropical climate with temperatures ranging between 6°C and 31°C. It has southern winter which is rather harsh compared to other regions of the island. The best time to go there is from March to October.

How to get there

You may choose to rent a car with or without a chauffeur, or take a taxi brousse from the station at Fasan'ny Karana in the south of Antananarivo.

Nothing is easier than finding a good restaurant in Antsirabe, most hotels have a restaurant area. Some tables however are worth mentioning: Zandina, Chez Jenny, Le Pousse-pousse, Le Rêve, La Cabane Chez Cla are on the list of good restaurants in Antsirabe. You can also eat in town while enjoying the warm welcome of the local people.

What to see

After your visit to the Lake Tritriva, you can continue with the discovery of the spa resort in Antsirabe then take a walk along the Independence Avenue. If you have enough time, rather opt for the thermal waters of Betafo and don’t forget to visit the Lake Andraikiba.
