When to go

Sainte Marie Island has a tropical climate characterized by three distinct seasons: a hot tropical season from January to April, a temperate and rainy season between May and August, and a cool and dry season from September through December. The best times to visit is April to May, but note that the period between July and October is also interesting as it is the whale season.

How to get there

Sainte Marie is reachable by sea. You may board a ferry boat from Mahambo or Soanierana Ivongo, two villages located respectively at about 86km and 168km away from Tamatave. It is advisable to embark in the morning for a safe two-and-a-half-hour journey. There are also flights that connect Antananarivo and Tamatave with the island.
