Discover the falls of Anosibe An'ala

Located in the north-east of Madagascar, Anosibe An'ala is located in the region of Alaotra Mangoro. It is 72 kilometres from the city of Moramanga. Reached by taking a difficult track a little, Anosibe An'Ala is accessible only in 4X4.

Anosibe An'ala takes its name from the omnipresence of forest or "ala" in Malagasy, covering ¾ of its area. These are indeed nearly 61,000 hectares of forested areas still intact to this day. In this natural setting is added the Sandrangato River spanned by a stone bridge and offers a surprising spectacle. From the old bridge, a path leads to Niagarakely Falls, Little Niagara. These waterfalls were named in 1950 by soldiers participating in the construction of the road linking Moramanga to Anosibe An'Ala.

After a swim at the Niagarakely Falls, the discovery of the Anosibe An'Ala region continues towards the famous "Death Falls". These are majestic waterfalls located a little more than fifty kilometres from Moramanga, opening right onto a breathtaking panorama. Many hikes are also possible to visit the surrounding mountains. Lemurs are very easy to see and some species come to the city for food during the guava season. To enter the forest also, it is necessary to proceed to the "saotran'ala" or gratitude for the forest, which is a ritual of request for grace to the forest.

Anosibe An'Ala is also renowned for its precious woods, like rosewood, but also for the presence of primary forests as far as the eye can see. It is therefore a green landscape that is offered to visitors to this city in the Alaotra-Mangoro region and its surroundings. The rainy climate contributes fully to the development of the many forest exploitations.
