Useful Information
When to go
The extreme south of Madagascar is known for its very hot and dry climate, but the region around Fort-Dauphin, including Berenty, has a less extreme climate, with an average annual temperature of 23°C. However, to fully take advantage of your visit, the best period is between July and October.
How to get there
From Antananarivo, you can reach Fort-Dauphin by road or by air, with the national airline Air Madagascar/ Tsaradia. Then travel to Berenty by car, the most practical and comfortable means of transport between these two destinations.
Where to stay
Regarding accommodation, you can easily book a room at the Berenty Lodge. In the town of Fort- Dauphin, you can choose between the hotels of La Croix du Sud, le Dauphin and La Marina. Facing the sea is the hotel Le Talinjoo and the Port Hôtel also offers very comfortable accommodation.
Where to eat
It is advisable to order meals at the restaurant of your hotel. Alternately, if you wish to eat seafood, the best address is Chez Richard. For those who prefer French cuisine, we recommend Chez Marcelline and for Madagascar dishes, Chez Vivi, Perline or Chez Georges.
What to see
In addition to your visit to Berenty, don't miss the private reserve of Kaleta. The more adventurous can climb the peak of Saint Louis. The area around the waterfall of Manantantely also deserves a visit. If you decide to take a stroll around Forty-Dauphin, the former colonial quarter is steeped in history.
