Twin Falls - Riambavy & Riandahy
22 July 2019
Prime Team
Dreaming of a short hike taking you into the heart of nature? The natural wealth of Madagascar's landscapes will quench your thirst for adventure and discovery. Yield to temptation in the stunning environment of the park of Andringitra, in the south-east of Madagascar.
Here, you can enjoy a day of open air activities surrounded by extraordinary waterfalls. The two most impressive are without any doubt the falls of Riandahy and Riambavy. Their names can be literally translated as ‘male waterfall’ and ‘female waterfall’. Legend has it that a royal couple, who for many years had remained childless, had consulted a soothsayer as a last resort. The latter recommended they should bathe in these twin falls, then sacrifice a zebu to give homage to their ancestors.
Following this ritual, they conceived several children.
Today, the site attracts crowds of tourists, if no longer for its possible medical powers, combating sterility, but more to admire its beauty, which is quite simply stunning. Even so, the spot is highly respected by the local population.
