FOCUS ON FAUNA - Reserve of Peyrieras

For lovers of nature wishing to spend time in contact with the local fauna, a visit to the nature reserve of Peyrieras, situated at Marozevo along the RN2 highway is a must, an essential stop-over before reaching the National Park of Andasibe. With its many endemic species, Peyrieras is a great introduction to the fauna of Madagascar.

The reserve is also a centre of reproduction for certain species and is surrounded by beautiful scenery, including a valley of paddy fields, mango plantations and lychees. A visit to the site will enable you to discover a large number of aquatic and ornamental plants, as well as a multitude of animals, including reptiles, chameleons (of all sizes and colours), amphibians, snakes, geckos, iguanas
and crocodiles. The reserve also has two species of lemurs: the Sifaka and the Fulvus.

This private reserve owes its name to the entomologist and naturalist André Peyrieras. It is a popular destination for nature photographers, since the close proximity to the animals makes it possible to take high quality photographs in favourable conditions. It is not a huge reserve, but it is well-maintained.
