Pools Of Delight - Ambodiatafana
28th May 2019
Prime Team
One thing is certain: Mother Nature knows what she is doing. If proof were needed, the natural pools of Ambodiatafana can provide it. There are three pools altogether (the natural pool of Antsarikelitry, that of Antsarirabe and the little lagoon of Satsikôza). They were formed through natural phenomena. Waves from out at sea come crashing against the rocky barrier protecting these peaceful stretches of the coast, forming billows of white foam.
The natural pool of Antsarikelitry is the first to be admired. This basin of sea water, stretching along a fine sandy beach, is considered sacred by the locals. A specialised guide will not fail to give you a gentle reminder of activities that are forbidden. Visitors from Madagascar toss coins into a crack in the rocks as an offering to the gods and make a wish, hoping that it will come true. The national pool of Antsarirabe is simply stunning, with its clear calm waters surrounded by a jagged rocky barrier. The little lagoon of Satsikôza is to be found further south. It is the perfect place for a quiet swim, sheltered from indiscreet gazes.
However, with the ebb and flow of the tides, the water in this little lagoon can be either very calm or extremely rough, so it is advisable to take great care. Whatever the time of day, however, the totally wild aspect of the site will delight anyone coming to gaze at it.
